51W52 Featured in Architectural Record’s April 2024 Interiors Issue

MdeAS partnered with Vocon to bring the ultimate hospitality experience to 51W52.

Known as Black Rock, or the CBS Building, 51W52 is the only skyscraper designed by famous modernist architect Eero Saarinen. Part renovation, part restoration, the goal of the project was to prepare the property for modern tenancy, while respecting and celebrating the original architecture.

In the first phase, the landmarked plaza was restored to its previous grandeur - “Saarinen would certainly approve…” noted Clifford A. Pearson of Arch Record. Second, original lobby finishes were restored and enhanced with modern elements including a sparkling light installation, glowing onyx reception desk, and curated Knoll and Saarinen furniture. A new mixer club was introduced at the 53rd Street entrance with a stair leading to a lower level amenity suite. “The stair hovers above a shallow pool, echoing the form of one that Saarinen designed for the General Motors Technical Center in Warren, Michigan,” says Tricia Ebner, Director. There, a private cocktail lounge, fitness center, flexible forum, and shared conference rooms create a world-class amenity offering for tenants.
